Henley misses cut at RSM Classic
A week after a violation ended what was shaping up to be a good weekend, Russell Henley missed – in natural and organic form – his first cut of the season.
The cut was 3 under at the RSM Classic in St. Simons, and Henley’s two-round total of 143 was 1 over.
He got off to a rough start with a 75, with two birdies against five bogeys. It was his second 75 of the season, his second-highest total, behind three 77s.
Henley returned to form with a 68 in the second round, but it wasn’t enough to climb out of the first-round ole.
Henley was playing well last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on Saturday. He was 7-under in the second round, after a first-round 66.
Then he realized he had by mistake used a different ball during the round, a PGA Tour violation. He went to tournament officials, and after assorted consultations, came to a decision.
Henley was penalized two shots for four holes, an eight-stroke hit that ended his tournament when he finished the round with a 77 and just missed the cut.
Kennesaw State women’s basketball player charged with murder
Kamiyah Street was to be a key in Kennesaw State’s hopes for its first winning season in women’s basketball since 2014-15, and third in more than a decade.
But the preseason All-Atlantic Sun Conference play was arrested Thursday on assorted counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a felony.
The former A-Sun freshman of the year, a Mays graduate, passed 1,000 points for her career in the Owls’ 92-64 win over Mercer, breaking a four-game losing streak over the Bears, and only the second win in the last 10 meetings.
She was arrested for her role in a July shooting death of 21-year-old Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne in an apartment complex less than a mile from old Turner Field.
