Friday Scores
8 p.m.
Class 5A: Locust Grove 4, Jones County 0
The Greyhounds offense was stuffed by Brooke McCubin's eight-strikeout one hitter. Jones County wasn't far from being the victim of a perfect game, since McCubin didn't walk anybody and Locust Grove played error-free defense.
Class A Private: Mount de Sales 2, George Walton 1
Peyton Barfield led off the bottom of the eighth with a bunt single. A sacrifice and grounder later - two outs - she was at third. Then Jordyn Partian, otherwise busy in the circle, walked. Up came Sarah Hatcher, who drilled a single to center to allow Barfield to stroll in with the walk-off winner. Hatcher went 3-for-4 with two RBI, accounting for half of the Cavs' hits. Jordyn Partain was again money, with six strikeouts and a walk in a 102-pitch two-hitter. Her counterpart, Taylor Tinsley, fanned 10 with a walk and six hits on 106 pitches.

Class AA, loser’s bracket: Lamar County 5, Heard County 4
4 p.m.
Class A Public, loser’s bracket: Trion 8, GMC 4
The Bulldogs got off to a nice start, a 3-0 lead after one, two coming on Leah Jannakos' homer to center. And it went downhill after that, Trion with four, one, and three runs in the next three innings. GMC kicked it around for FOUR errors leading to SIX unearned runs. Trion put together an error, single, error, walk, RBI fly, and two-run double. The Bulldogs had a tough offensive outing, going down 1-2-3 in two straight innngs before adding a run in the fourth, and stranding two in the sixth, and being retired in order in the seventh to end the season at 28-9.
Class A Private, loser’s bracket: Tattnall 4, Hebron Christian 0
It took the Trojans some time to convert hits to runs, finally getting a pair in the bottom of the fourth. Tattnall got the first three batters on in the fourth before K Paul delivered a two-run single. But they ended the inning with the bases loaded. They put it away in the sixth with two more runs on Kaitlyn Hallman's sacrifice fly followed by an RBI single from Jaelyn Darley. Hailey Daughtry kept the door almost shut all game long with a mighty efficient performance. She scattererd only three hits with no walks, keeping the Lions in check despite no strikeouts. Kenna Epps, Lindsey Paul, and Kaci Paul all had two hits.
12 p.m.
Class A Private, loser’s bracket: Hebron Christian 2, Stratford 1; Stratford eliminated
The Eagles (20-10) took a 1-0 lead in the second when T Justice led off with a single, advanced on a grounder and a sacrifice, and then scored on Shorter McCook's single to center. The Eagles then stranded runners in the third and fourth before Hebron Christian put two up in the bottom of the fourth on two errors and two singles, the lead - and winning - run coming with two outs. Stratford stranded a two-out runner in the fifth, but was retired in order in the sixth and seventh. Stratford pitcher Kenna McMurray kept Hebron Christian in check after the scoring, retiring the final seven batters she saw. She fanned two with a walk on three hits and 72 pitches in six innings with both runs unearned, while her counterpart Layton Morris needed eight more pitches in another inning on a six-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks. Taylor Justice had two hits for the Eagles.
10 a.m.
Jones County 5, Buford 3
Destin Howard's grand slam in the bottom of the sixth dug the Greyhounds out of a 3-1 hole, Jones County stymied after a run in the first. It was quite the pitchers' game, with Jones County's Savannah Williams striking out 16 with no walks and Buford's Ansleigh Hollifield - who had a perfect game earlier in the playoffs - whiffing 11 with no walks. Each team gave up two unearned runs. Mackenzie Kilpatrick had two hits and Madison Bennett two runs for Jones County.
