Softball

Banks County 3, Monticello 0; Rabun County 9, Monticello 2

            Banks County held the Hurricanes to one hit, but couldn’t score until the sixth. Bailey Jenkins fanned four with no walks and six hits in a quality losing effort for Monticello. Rabun County turned a 2-1 deficit after three to a 6-2 lead after four. Kate Robinson had two hits for the Hurricanes.

Central 21, Westside 6

Jackson 9, Peach County 3

            The Red Devils put up more than enough in the first with six. Alex Scott was a tough out for the Trojans, with two hits, two runs, and three RBI.

Jones County 3, Union Grove 1

          Kenzie Forrester struck out four and gave up four hits in the complete-game win. Mackenzie Kilpatrick had two of the Greyhounds’ seven hits. Jones County got three in the second, and held on.

Lee County 7, Houston County 6

            It was 2-2 after one, 4-3 Houston County after three, and then Lee County won the fourth inning 4-2. Then, the suspense for three more innings, but the Bears were retired in order in the fifth, stranded a two-out single in the sixth, and went down 1-2-3 in the seventh, to take second in the region. Three Lee County runs were unearned off of Rylee Lamb, who struck out three with two walks and 11 hits, the same amount mustered up by the Bears. Madi Campbell had three hits and three RBI for Houston County, while Alice Thomas, Averi Martin, and Makayla Krepps had two hits each. Bobbi Poff drove in two runs.

Locust Grove 7, Jones County 0

            The Greyhounds were held to two hits.

Rutland 8, Pike County 5

            The Hurricanes pulled away in a close game with a four-run sixth, holding despite four errors. Four singles, a walk, sacrifice, and error put the Hurricanes on top. Lacey Caldwell, Hannah Pelt, and Ciara Passmore had two hits each for Rutland, while Taylor Stewart drove in two runs. Bailey Caldwell struck out five with a walk in the complete-game win.

Schley County 7, Westfield 5

            The Hornets stepped out of GISA play and almost survived three errors to avoid losing their first game of the year. The winners survived four errors. A three-run sixth pulled Westfield close. Sydney Langdon led the Hornets with three hits and two RBI, while Sadie Hayes, Ellie Williams, and Marena Knowles had two hits each.

West Laurens 10, Perry 4

            The Raiders bats were hot from the start, aided by four Perry errors and four unearned runs. Alyssa Jones whiffed seven with three walks and six hits for the complete-game win. Taylor Thompson went 3-for-3 with two runs, with two-hit games from Jakerra Wilbur, Camryn Stokes, Taylor Sapp, and Emma Riner. Wilbur scored three times and Riner drove in two runs. Madison Homen’s two hits and AliRae Dykes’ two RBI led Perry.

State playoffs

            Houston County will host Heritage Conyers on Tuesday in the first round in 6A.
