Latest GHSA Class A football rankings? No new good news
Three Central Georgia teams are in the top 20 in their respective groups in the third GHSA Class A power rankings.
Taylor County fell from No. 5 to No. 15 in Public, while Mount de Sales improved two spots to No. 16 in Private, and Stratford stayed put at No. 19 despite a three-touchdown loss to Mount de Sales.
FPD is 27th and Tattnall 28th.
The public remains baffling, after No. 21 Macon County.
Wilkinson County is the next area team at No. 27, despite being 0-4 and outscored substantially. It’s ahead of 3-2 Schley County, a top-10 team. Hancock Central is 38th, Hawkinsville No. 41, two spots ahead of Dooly County, six ahead of Twiggs County and seven better than Crawford County, GMC last at No. 51.
Five Central Georgia teams in GHSA softball power rankings top 10
The area softball teams are mighty consistent, no doubt.
The same five teams remained among the top 10 in their respective groups in the GHSA Class A softball rankings.
Tattnall, Stratford, and Mount de Sales are 3-4-5 in Private, while ACE is sixth and GMC up three spots to seventh in Public.
The area remains strong in the Public rankings, with No. 14 Crawford County, No. 16 Hawkinsville, for four teams in the top 14. Taylor County is 24th, followed by No. 39 Wilkinson County, No. 42 Dooly County, and N0. 49 Twiggs County.
FPD is 21st in Private.

Alums pick up conference POW honors
Central Georgia has been fertile for placekicker, and colleges continue to reap the benefits.
Peach County grad Mitchell Fineran racked up another Southern Conference special teams player of the week honor in Samford’s wild 61-55 win over The Citadel. He scored 13 points on field goals of 33 and 34, plus seven PATs.
And Northside’s Cory Munson is the C-USA special teams pick for the second time after hitting field goals of 28 and 35 yards while making the PATs in Western Kentucky’s upset of defending C-USA champ UAB.
