Dodge County's Cam Young has had a stellar career at Fort Valley State, and his resume grows and grows.
It has again with his selection to the 2018 Don Hansen All-Super Region Two third-team defense.
The junior is one of 18 players from the SIAC on the teams.
Young, a two-time first-team All-SIAC pick, was an anchor last year, with 8.5 tackles a game, 5.4 solos, along with 2.5 tackles for loss of six yards, a forced and recovered fumble, two pass breakups, and a blocked kick.
The safety had 20 tackles, 14 solo, against regionally-ranked Lenoir Rhyne, and had 14 tackles against Tuskegee. ...
Fredricka Sheats of CGTC is the Central Georgia Technical College has been selected as the GCAA Division I women's Player of the Week. Sheats averaged 22 points, nine rebounds, two steals and ts, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 3.5 assists in two games last week.
Honor Roll (last week)
Lather, rinse, repeat, and hand the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week to Mercer's Amanda Thompson.
She has taken the honor for the third straight week and fourth time this season. The preseason all-conference selection and December player of the month is the first player to win player of the week three straight times since ETSU’s Tianna Tarter in 2016. She is also the last player to win it four times in a season.
Thompson got her fourth straight double-double, with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-66 loss at Jacksonville. The fifth straight one came on 18 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to Columbia.
Thompson leads the league in rebounding (9.1 per game) and offensive rebounds (3.8 per game) and is second in steals (2.3 per game). Additionally, she is in the top 10 in scoring, field goal percentage, defensive rebounds and minutes played.
