Wednesday's Braves Report: A win at home and no suspense? And observations (updated)

Braves win at home! Braves win at home! Holy cow

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Touki Toussaint whiffed eight in 5.2 innings as Atlanta topped St. Louis 7-3.

The bullpen of Jonny Venters, Jesse Biddle, Shane Carle, and A.J. Minter gave up only three hits and a run, although the Cards did get the bases loaded with one out in the top of the ninth.

Ender Inciarte and Tyler Flowers added two hits each for Atlanta, which played error free and left only five on, to nine for St. Louis. Freeman also had a stolen base and was part of two double plays.

          To be updated.

The Braves exited Aug. 15 with a 34-24 home record and a 34-27 road record. They've since gone 4-14 at home (vs. Rockies, Rays, Cubs, Pirates, Red Sox, Nats, Cards) and 11-3 on the road (vs. Marlins, Pirates, D-backs and Giants). All competition is not created equal./MB

It's just so irrational. Comparing a horrendous half of football in the Super Bowl to what it would require from not 1 but 2 teams over the course of 2 weeks to prevent the #Braves from making the playoffs is to suspend logic and become a terrified fan obsessed with a "jinx."/DOB

Freeman's opposite-field, two-run shot was his third homer within his past 51 at-bats and his second homer within his past 12 at-bats. He went homerless over 75 AB from Aug. 15-Sept. 4 and totaled just four homers over 192 AB from June 16-Aug. 13./MB

It's popular for some on Twitter to mock one of the game's best hitters, Freddie Freeman, if he strikes out in a big situation one game, but for some reason not as popular to note when he gets a hit 3 or 4 out of every 10 times he bats with runners in scoring position.?DOB

Flowers' leadoff double, which led to him scoring on a wild pitch, was his 15th extra-base hit (8 doubles, 7 HRs) through 232 AB this season. He had 28 XBH (16 doubles, 12 HR) over 317 AB in 2017./MB

Freeman's fifth-inning RBI single gave him his 13th three-hit game of the season and first since Aug. 9. He had just two multi-hit games while batting .195 (16-for-82) from Aug. 16-Sept. 7. He's batted .405 (17-for-42) while notching at least two hits in 7 of the last 11 games/MB

Braves win, 7-3. They'll be up at least 5.5 games when the Phillies come to town tomorrow. There are 10 contests remaining. Sky status: Clear. 84-68./GB

Braves are 6-4 in their past 10 games and have reduced their magic number to 6 to clinch the NL East. Or, as some on Twitter would view it, apocalyptic./DOB
