Class A softball pairings set
There was some interesting changes in the Class A softball rankings upon the end of the region tournaments, and appeals.
Wesleyan jumped from second to first for the playoffs. Tattnall moved into second because of the Region 7-A title win over FPD, but the Vikings still had the top rating of 14.92 before the appeals
So FPD dropped from first to third between the two elements. Mount de Sales remained fourth and Stratford fifth, and all four local teams will have first-round byes.
Region champions get moved into automatic bids, so that dropped GMC and Hawkinsville in the Public side from third and fifth to seventh and ninth. GMC retained a bye, but Hawkinsville now hosts Crawford County, the last team to get in.
Teams should send playoff info as soon as possible to centralgasports@gmail.com.
GHSA Class A football rankings updated
Mount de Sales dropped two spots to No. 8 in the GHSA Class A football power ratings.
Stratford fell three after its loss to Tattnall, which moved up six places to 27th. FPD improved one to 29th.
Dooly County made a four-spot leap to 15th in Class A Pubic with a romp over Hawkinsville, which fell five to 37th. Hancock Central slipped two spots to 16th after losing to now-No. 12 Greene County. Macon County crept closer to the top 24, checking in at No.28, the final area team likely to have a chance at a playoff spot.
A.J. Gray is now “Coach Gray” at Georgia Tech
A heart condition ended the playing career of Washington County alum A.J. Gray at Georgia Tech. But it started his coaching career. A good update from Ken Sugiura of the AJC.
Honor Roll
Peach County alum Mitchell Fineran added to the resume as the latest Southern Conference special teams player of the week, his third such honor during his freshman season.
Fineran helped Samford sweep the honors after going 9 for 9 in extra points along with a 40-yard field goal, and had three touchbacks.
