Saturday’s Peach State College Football Scoreboard: A good day for the state

            The Bulldogs improved to 3-3 with their third straight game of at least 35 points, and a season high.

            GMC hosts Army Prep next Saturday.

Kennesaw State 56, Presbyterian 0

            The suspense was gone shortly after kickoff as KSU won its 12th straight home game, en route to its largest margin of victory over an FCS opponent.

            QB Chandler Burks ran for 135 yards on 16 carries, part of the Owls’ 485 rushing yards and 637 yards total offense. Dodge County grad Kyle Glover had six carries for 49 yards.

            The defense held PC to 141 total yards and 18 on the ground, setting program records.

            Dorian Walker’s interception set up the Owls’ first score, a 25-yard pass from Burks to Darnell Holland with 12:24 left in the first.

            Burks followed with scores of 1, 10, and 3 yard en route to a 28-0 halftime lead.

Georgia Southern 48, South Alabama 13
            The Eagles led 17-6 at halftime and put it away in the third with plenty of icing in the fourth quarter, GSU improving to 4-1 for the first time since 2015.

            Georgia Southern ran for 295 yards, and averaged 7.7 yards per play, three more than South Alabama. The Eagles scored 21 points off of four turnovers.

            Shai Weters passed for 99 yards and ran for 85 and two TDs. Former Houston County standout Darion Anderson caught a 58-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

            The Eagles visit Texas State on Thursday.

Clark Atlanta 21,  FVSU 19

            FVSU could never get the lead and lost in its second straight home game.

            CAU scored the game-winner with 13:38 left in the game on a 45-yard run, and FVSU answered eight minutes later with a 38-yard scoring pass from Garrel Quainton (West Laurens) to Lorenzo Smothers with 5:34 left.

            Clark was able to run out the clock, the game ending with the Panthers on the Wildcats’ 35.

            Clark outgained FVSU 209-125 on the ground, but the Wildcats passed for 73 more yards.

            Quainton was 19 of 31 for 177 yards with a touchdown and interception while suffering four sacks. Jamari Clark ran 10 times for 89 yards for FVSU.

            The 1-5 Wildcats host Tuskegee at 6 p.m. next week.

Savannah State 23, Charleston Southern 3

            Savannah State got the run game going and the defense stepped up as the Tigers won their first game of the year and beat CSU for the first time.

            The Bucs got their only points in the second quarter, as Savannah State never trailed.

            D’Vonn Gibbons led SSU with 68 yards on 10 carries.

 Georgia 41, Vanderbilt 13

             Houston County grad Jake Fromm completed 17 of 23 passes for three touchdowns and improved to 18-2 as a starter as the Bulldogs pulled away fairly early.

Fromm passed for 276 yards in a little more than a half, with a 75-yard TD pass to Terry Godwin on the first play after Vanderbilt gave Georgia its first deficit of the year.

            The Bulldogs ran 34 times for 219 yards, and outgained the Commodores 560-321.
