          The Cavs held off a late Strong Rock rally, the visitors scoring six runs in the final three innings of the Class A Private series opener. MdS score four in the third to pull ahead, both teams committing six errors for nine unearned runs. The Cavs got three-hit games from Heartly Nepveaux, Chloe Nepveux, and Lily Leatherwood, and two hits and two RBI from Peyton Barfield, Chloe Nepveaux also with two RBI. Jordan Partain fanned nine with six walks in a three-hitter. A seven-run fourth put the second game out of reach. Strong Rock again had six errors to four for MdS. Chloe Nepveaux went the distance, with five strikeouts and two walks with seven hits. Sarah Hatcher went 4-for-4, with Leatherwood and Barfield adding two hits each, and Alyssa Laconico two RBI along with Leatherwood.

Northside-Columbus 5, Mary Persons 2; Northside 9, Mary Persons 4

          Mary Persons’ season ends on the road.

Perry 9, Eastside 5

          The Panthers trailed 5-2 until getting two in the fifth, and then they went off for five in the bottom of the sixth of the 4A series’ third game. Eastside got a one-out double in the top of the seventh, but Reagan Hughes got a pop-up and fly out to end it. AliRae Dykes and Allison Peavy had two-run hits in the sixth for the Panthers, now making their second straight trip to Columbus. Peavy had two doubles and drove in five runs, while Dykes had two hits, two RBI, and three runs. Abby Ussery had two hits and Terra Odom three runs.

Appling County 8, Rutland 0; Rutland 5, Appling County 3

          Rutland responded well from the first-game one-hit, four-error shutout to keep the series alive, getting two runs in the top of the seventh and pitcher Bailey Caldwell needing only 13 pitches to dispatch Appling County in order in the bottom of the seventh. Caldwell recovered nicely from the odd first game (five earned runs, 11 hits, but seven strikeouts and no walks) to get the win in three innings of relief for Taylor Stewart, who gave up only two runs in four innings on nine hits. Caldwell had two hits and Taylor Stewart two RBI in the second game, Breasia Davis scoring twice.

Arkansas State 51, Georgia State 35

          Sun Belt favorite Arkansas State bolted out to a 34-7 halftime lead and cruised to the conference win. ASU outgained GSU 530-422, the Panthers suffering two turnovers.
