Softball

Haralson County 8, Rutland 0; Rutland 5, Haralson County 3

          The Hurricanes were held to three hits, two from Breasia Davis, in the opener. They also had six errors, leading to four unearned runs. Rutland came up clutch in the seventh inning of the nightcap to stay alive, scoring three runs. Taylor Stewart’s single to right scored Keely Bryant and Davis for a one-run lead. Stewart had two of the Hurricanes’ nine hits. Stewart and Bailey Caldwell teamed for an eight-hitter, with three strikeouts and one walk.

Mary Persons 6, Cross Creek 0; Mary Persons 15, Cross Creek 0

Northside 23, ML King 2; Northside 15, MLK 0

          The visitors dealt the knockout punch in the first inning with seven runs, and added 16 in the next two, helped by 10 MLK errors. Madelyne Lee went 4-for-4 and Amya Smith 3-for-3. Stephanie Ruffin went 2-for 3 with three RBI, while Smith, Lee, and Kylee Ussery drove in two runs each. Ruffin and Mallory Gordy added two hits, Ussery throwing a no-hitter in three innings, fanning four with three walks. The Eagles ended the 6A nightcap early with 11 runs in the third, MLK cutting its errors in half. Luna went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Capmbell adding two hits and Nicole Morales two RBI. Ussery fanned three and gave up a hit.

Perry 16, Thomson 3; Perry 11, Thomson 3

          The Panthers put it away with seven in the fourth after going up 3-1 after two. Thomson was held to four hits by Reagan Hughes in five innings, with seven strikeouts and three walks. Abby Ussery, Allison Peavy, Hughes, and Harley Crumley had two hits each for the Panthers, Crumley driving in four runs in the opener. Same story in the nightcap, with a five-run first for Perry, which survived four errors. Terra Odom, Ussery, Allison Peavy, and Carsen Garner had two hits each, Garner with three RBI, and Odom and Miranda Lawhorn with two each. Hughes got the five-inning win again.
