          The Gryphons had no trouble on the road in winning the first game in program history, also racking up a shutout at the same time.

Dooly County 33, Worth County 21

          The Bobcats went on the road for the win, the first for new head coach Corey Jarvis.

Howard 50, FPD 14

          The Huskies had to clean some things up from a week earlier, and they did, rolling. Jarvarsia Meadows returned the opening kickoff from his 10 to the FPD 39, and Jeremiah Kelly took it in on the first play. And the Huskies went on to a dominating night, lead 29-7 after one quarter. QB Quintan Sewell had two first-quarter scores and Kelly added another one. Kelly finished with 204 yards on 12 carries and Meadows 107 on 6 as Howard had 393 yards on the ground and 115 in the air. Coleman Cauley had 91 yards on eight carries for the Vikings, who got scores from Josh Raines in the first quarter and Cauley in the fourth. FPD was replacing some quality skill players, like QB Dalton Cox and WR Titus Moore, and had just 78 yards on three completions, but did run for 145 yards on 37 carries.

Jones County 41, Baldwin 17

          Baldwin led first, Jones County took a 13-10 halftime lead, and that was it. Hunter Costlow threw a pair of third-quarter TD passes for a 27-10 lead after three.

Lamar County 24, Greenville 8

Mary Persons 48, Jackson 17

          The bloodthirsty rivalry got started like an even rivalry, with the Bulldogs leading 21-17 late in the second quarter. But Quen Wilson's third TD, a 59-yard run, made it a 10-point game with just less than four minutes left. QB J.T. Hartage started the blowout with a 6-yard TD inside 30 seconds left in the half. Mary Persons added a score in the third and in the fourth. It was the largest margin in this rivalry since the Bulldogs won 35-3 in 1984, and the most points scored by the winner since Mary Persons' 48-19 win in 1967. Yes, Dan Pitts coached in both of those games. Hartage threw for three touchdowns and ran for one, and Wilson ran for three.

Mount de Sales 33, Landmark Christian 14

          It was a tight game, 16-14 MdS at the half, and then it stopped being that tight as the 2-0 Cavs scored 10 third-quarter points on Ethan Aler's 22-yard field goal and Jackson Taylor's 16-yard TD catch from Dexter Williams, who added a 12-yard run late in the fourth quarter to seal it. Williams was 8 of 17 for 90 yards passing, and he raced for 191 yards on 24 carries as the Cavs racked up 304 yards on 42 carries. And Mount de Sales' defense held Landmark Christian to 187 yards total offense and a 2-for-10 night on third down.

          Class AA Northeast gave Class AAAA Perry plenty leading 17-15 late in the third quarter and coming up with an interception deep to stifle a scoring threat. But the Panthers answered quickly for a 22-17 lead and added a late third-quarter score, then spent the fourth quarter holding on to the lead.

Putnam County 28, Temple 7

          Temple broke the shutout with 7:06 left in the third, but the War Eagles stayed in control to improve to 1-1 and give Shaun Pope his first win as the new head coach.

Veterans 49, Bleckley County 21

          The Warhawks blew things open in the second half to match last year's win total. The 80 points scored in two games is the most in consecutive games since 73 in 2013 (31-6 over Rutland and 42-7 over Howard). Veterans set a program record for points, topping the 42 in that Howard game. The Warhawks scored 28 points off of five turnovers to go 2-0 for the first time in program history.

Warner Robins 50, Locust Grove 40

          Two turnovers - a pick-6 and fumble converted to a touchdown a play later - in the fourth quarter turned this into a tight game. The Demons gained nearly 600 yards in total offense while giving up a little more than 450.

Washington County 35, Jefferson County 14

          Dyquan Bloodsaw scored from 51, 8, and 2 yards out - and had a 90-yard kickoff return called back - as the Golden Hawks eased away in the fourth quarter. Jefferson County pulled within 22-14 early in the third quarter, the Golden Hawks getting some cushion inside two minutes and adding a 35-yard score from Sha'Marcus Poole with less than six minutes left in the game.

West Laurens 16, Crisp County 0

          The Raiders improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2015, getting off to a good start with E.J. Holmes' 95-yard return of the opening kickoff. He had an interception for a return last week.

          The Hornets had a 12-0 lead, but couldn't hold on and pull off the upset.

Monsignor Donovan at Piedmont

Trinity Christian 35, Brentwood 28

          Trinity Christian got a 7-yard touchdown from Austin Drake with 20 seconds left and the PAT from Colin Crozier to get the win at home. The Crusaders led 21-7 at halftime, but Brentwood tied it with third-quarter touchdowns from Schley Moore and Jay Musselwhite. Brentwood re-tied it with 8:19 left in the game on Musselwhite's 15-yard run and Zeb Chapman's PAT. Musselwhite ran for 138 yards on 20 carries and Gabe Anglin had 12 tackles. Gideon Meadows ran 21 times for 102 yards for Trinity Christian.
