Tuesday's Braves Report: Newcomb struggles, comeback just short
Sean Newcomb gave up almost as many runs in less than three innings as he did in May, and Atlanta couldn’t overcome his worst start of the year, falling 8-5 to the Yankees.
His shortest stint of the year came on a night when the Braves hoped to give the bullpen a little rest. He went 2.2 innings with four earned runs, two strikeouts, five walks and two homers.
Luke Jackson followed and went three innings and x Phillips 2.1.
The Braves cut the deficit in half in the fifth with a two-run homer from Endar Inciarte followed by a solo shot from Ozzie Albies. They got to within 6-5 in the seventh, but the Yankees clinched it with two in the eighth.

Braves catcher Kurt Suzuki might have a hard time making the All-Star team with Buster Posey leading the balloting and J.T. Realmuto putting up big numbers, but he's deserving of a spot. He's slashing .290/.353/.487 after another productive game vs. the #Yankees last night./Jerry Crasnick, ESPN.com

Snitker said #Braves wouldn't use Vizcaino like they did once before he went on DL, when he pitched in 4 of 6 games. Will be more cautious now. And with Minter and Winkler as closer options, shouldn't be too hard to follow that plan./DOB

Snit says they haven't decided whether they'll need to add a reliever before tomorrow afternoon's game. But with Phillips, Jackson and possibly Biddle unavailable for tomorrow, there's reason to anticipate a move./MB
