Saturday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media

Shorthanded Upson-Lee makes a name in state high school basketball history

Already lacking depth, Upson-Lee blew off being without a starter, thanks to a fairly legendary performance from Jarrett Adderton in a starting role, and rolled past St. Pius X 70-54 Saturday for the Knights' 63rd straight win and second straight state title.

Central Georgia Tech's men win title

Central Georgia Tech got control early and kept it en route to thump South Georgia Tech 74-52 Saturday to win the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 17 title in the Georgia College Athletic Association.

The Titans led 48-25 at halftime with Eli Farrakhan going 4 of 5 from 3 for 14 points.

No other information was available from the GCAA or CGTC.

The selection show for the national tournament is Monday at 12:30 p.m.

As expected, Georgia cuts loose Mark Fox

Mark Fox had few detractors about almost everything about Georgia basketball under his watch.

Except for wins and postseason appearances. Fox did everything right, except win enough, and thus was fired Saturday.

His reputation will remain solid for how he handled players, academics, media, and for his support of other Georgia sports.
