            West Laurens had eight wrestlers win their first two matches, while Veterans had several take advantage of byes to advance as part of the first day of the GHSA traditional wrestling sectional tournament.

            Classes 7A, 6A, 5A and 4A got started on Friday and conclude on Saturday. Classes 3A, 2A, and A get going on Saturday, needing only one day because of fewer competitors.

            Some wrestlers had only one match Friday because of the number of competitors. Wrestlers who lost two matches were eliminated.

            Veterans has 12 still alive – although several had only one bout through 11 p.m. Friday - and Perry 11, with Baldwin eight. Mary Persons has all eight left, albeit all in consolation

            Jones County’s Trey Bonner will face Veterans’ Charlie Wilson in a 5A semifinal at 285.

            Several wresters advanced with a pair of pins: Bryan Hernandez of Houston County, Jones County’s Bonner, Veterans’ Charlie Wilson, Warner Robins’ Christian Garraud, Baldwin’s Christopher Green, and West Laurens’ Skyler Grove, Logan McGowan, Greyson Clarke, Brent Carr, Michael Thomsen, and Ben Deal.

            Class 2A Lamar County has 10 qualifiers and Mount de Sales 9 in Class A to lead the Central Georgia teams on Saturday.

            FPD is the lone Central Georgia school hosting a sectional, with Class A Section B.
