GHSA basketball: Thursday's tournament results (updated with details)

         

          Region and region finish accompany each team. Records are based on what's reported by teams to Maxpreps. Class A seedings are listed.

          Teams/coaches should send game information to centralgasports@gmail.com as soon as details are finalized, and postgame stats and info to that address within 30 minutes of conclusion.

 

Second Round

BOYS

Class 5A

R1 1 Warner Robins 99, R4 3 Eagle's Landing 82

          Jacolbey Owens went off for fully one-third of his team's points, while Nelson Phillips adding 23 and Jaydon Norman 15. The Demons led 51-25 at halftime.

Class 4A

R2 1 Upson-Lee 52, R4 2 Salem 44

          Salem came in ready to play and controlled most of the first quarter before the Knights got moving in the second quarter, and held off a fourth-quarter rally sparked by 3-pointers. The Knights won their 60th straight and improved to 28-0, behind 17 points from Tye Fagan and 12 from Travon Walker.

R3 1 Baldwin 60, R1 2 Americus-Sumter 59

          The Braves led for only 17 seconds, but they were important - and late - seconds, Baldwin advancing with Charles Ubah's late 3-pointer. The hosts trailed by 11 after three quarters and stormed back.

Class AAA

R4 1 Central 62 R2 2 Long County 49

R4 2 Westside 75, R1 4 Crisp County 64

 

Class AA

R2 3 Vidalia 52, R3 1 Washington County 46

          Vidalia led 12-5 after one, 19-18 at halftime and 32-25 after three on the road in what was mostly about a three-possession margin game.

R1 1 Thomasville 72, R3 2 Dublin 60

          Thomasville kept the talented Irish in check from the start, an 11-2 first-quarter run putting the Bulldogs in some control. They led 19-15 after one, but extended that to 41-28 at halftime, and 56=42 after three. Dublin did get within 52-48 in the final three-plus minutes.

R5 2 Jordan 71, R8 4 Monticello 67

          Monticello was mighty close to a four-seed in the quarters, leading 22-13 after one and 35-29 at halftime.

          Malik Foston had 20 for GMC, which trailed 45-36 after three quarters and only 31-28 at the half, thanks to a 30-foot buzzer-beater.

Class 3A

R4 1 Peach County 53, R2 2 Pierce County 42

          The Trojans got 19 points from Da'Nasia Shaw, 10 in the fourth quarter. Deja Holland added 14 for Peach County, which held Pierce County to 3 first-quarter points. The Trojans will await a coin toss to determine the site of its next game, with Franklin County.

R2 1 Tattnall County 54, R4 2 Central 45

          Central had the great start, Tattnall County the great finishing, overcoming a 14-0 start by the Chargers.

 

Class AA

R3 1 Dodge County 73, R1 2 Early County 65

          Destinee Wright turned in a major performance with 28 points, 20.4 percent of the Indians' points. Europe Brown added 18, Zannesia Mitchell 14 and LaShauna Coley.

R1 1 Fitzgerald 68, R3 2 Washington County 65

R8 3 Rabun County 63, R5 1 Lamar County 43

          The good news was that Tomiyah Alford cracked 1,000 points for her career. The bad news was that the Trojans' season came to an end against a quality team ranked in two of the state's three polls.
