As much of the state tries to refocus on life and work after Georgia’s head-numbing Rose Bowl win, basketball teams are diving back into action on Tuesday.

It’s an abbreviated schedule, but there are some big region matchups starting 2018.

A neighborhood non-region doubleheader was moved up on the schedule, with Northside at Perry, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. and now at 3 p.m. with the girls to start.

Elbert County visits Putnam County in a  quality Region 8-AA game, the Blue Devils at 9-4 and 2-0 and the War Eagles at 11-0 and 2-0. Jashanti Simmons leads Putnan County with 19.8 points a game while all-stater Rykia Pennamon gets 9.4 rebounds.

Bleckley County (6-3) is at West Laurens (7-6) in non-region action.

The better matchups are on the boys side.

Westside and Southwest have similar records, but the Seminoles’ boys have played a pretty hefty schedule.

Northeast visits Dodge County boys action, the Raiders at 9-6 and the Indians at 7-2.

A quality non-region battle takes place on the road when Warner Robins’ boys, off their first loss of the season on Saturday to Upson-Lee, takes on Gainesville in the Big South Shootout in Duluth. Gainesville is 6-6.

Another neighborhood boys battle has Bleckley County (9-2) at West Laurens (9-4).

There are several games on Wednesday as well before things return to a full schedule on Friday.

On Monday, Beach beat Baldwin 66-47 in girls action at the Big South Shootout in Duluth. Northeast’s girls lost to Campbell 75-67 at the same location.
